VIDEO CONSIDERATIONS
Our vast experience in all areas of video production uniquely
qualifies us to help guide you thru the wide variety of options available
to you:
BUDGET: It's often best to determine your budget before requesting
bids, thereby eliminating companies who bid too high. Plan to be flexible,
especially if this is your first video. A general rule-of-thumb is
$1,000 per minute. We can offer you many ways to save money on order
to stay within budget.
TAPE FORMAT: When selecting a tape format, remember your
target audience. Formats such as VHS, S-VHS, Hi-8 and 3/4" can
help economize corporate communications, safety and training videos
targeted toward employees. However, if your target market includes
current clients, prospective customers or the general public, higher-grade
formats such as Betacam SP or Digital should be considered.
TALENT: Consider professional voiceover narrators, on-screen
actors and models to communicate your message. Union and non-union
talent are available, but your employees may be used to save money.
Titles and graphics will also enhance your presentation, as will music
and sound effects.
PRESENTATION: The pace of your presentation can vary according
to the message. Interviews can be an effective tool, but voiceovers
are most appropriate for some content. Music video styles are also
popular, possibly relying more on titles and graphics.

We recommend using the highest quality
videotape and equipment in producing each project. However, we realize
that budgets sometimes will not allow this. For this reason, we can
accomodate your needs with a vairety of formats. |
 |
VHS was the preferred format
for corporate/industrial videos in the 70s and has since been replaced
with higher formats. Quality is measured in horizontal lines of resolution
-- the higher the resolution, the higher the quality. VHS: 240
lines, S-VHS and Hi-8: 400 lines, Betacam: 750
lines or higher. And keep in mind that almost all productions will
be delivered to the end user as a VHS tape. |
 |
Use of low-end formats can be enhanced
by using a 3-chip camera, which provides 750 lines of resolution.
This higher resolution is compressed onto tape, improving color, contrast
and clarity. 3-chip cameras also help cope with a wider variety of
audio recording and lighting options. |
 |
S-VHS and Digital cameras
are other affordable camera options. S-VHS has long had a reputation
for allowing generation after generation of dubbing without significant
loss... unmatched until the arrival of digital. Since Betacam field
recording is limited to 30 mins per tape, these formats are also a
good choice for longer uninterrupted program content. S-VHS: up
to 120 mins, Digital: up to 270 mins. |
 |
But with the improvement of digital
formats, clients have an alternative. AVS provides DVCAM production
services that rival many Betacam productions. It is highly recommended
for any production intended for public presentation. |
POST-PRODUCTION
AVS VIdeo uses two unique
non-linear editing systems: Newtek's Flyer and DPS Velocity!
Both systems edit in REAL TIME so there is no rendering of video
clips and effects. DPS Velocity is our newest system. It has
numerous advantages over the Flyer, but both systems support any format
used in production. AVS supports all productions on the following
formats: VHS, 8mm, Hi-8, S-VHS, 3/4" U-matic, Betacam SP, DVCAM
and MiniDV. And AVS now offers CD-ROM and DVD production of your
video project. |
